The HP Notebook 15 AY011NR is a 15-inch desktop-replacement laptop with an affordable sticker price. It is safe despite having a faster processor and has a 1080p FHD display. Compared to its other competitors, such as the Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241, it offers a middle-of-the-road performance.
HP Notebook 15 AY011NR Review
At first glance, the HP Notebook 15 AY011NR looks decent and is packed with enough juice to face more than daily casual work. Typically, laptops priced on the lower rank of the midrange systems for desktop-replacement laptops come with more than a few compromises and lackings.
But, HP Notebook 15 AY011NR maintains well-rounded features, including a fast 6th generation processor, 8 Gigabytes of RAM, 1 Terabyte of storage, and a 1920 x 1080p Full HD Display. This is, presumably, one of the most popular desktop-replacement laptops, primarily because of its FHD display and robust performance on most day-to-day tasks.
- Strong productivity and multimedia performance

HP Notebook 15 AY011NR: General Overview
HP gives you an elegant looking laptop that is comparatively slim because it is equipped with a DVD ROM. It is 38.4 x 25.5 x 2.37 cm in dimension and weighs 2.14 kg or 4.72 lbs. These physical aspects are more than enough for your on-the-go tasks, where you don’t want a truck-load of stuff in your bag.
The cover hinges are soft enough for you to lift the cover easily and open it up without having to use both your hands, and it is stiff enough to not wobble too much in case you are both running a marathon and using your laptop.
It has a DVD ROM equipped with a burner, which is good since most of the new models have taken this out of their design. This may come in handy when you want to store your wedding photos on a CD or DVD.
Design and Appearance
When you see this laptop for the first time, the cover itself’s linear/hairline design stands out. You no longer have to worry about leaving some finger marks there. Overall, it has a polished and steel alloy like feel and design, although it is quite light-weighted. It is actually relatively thin even though it has a DVD-ROM.
It has a 15.6-inch screen, which is perfect for your everyday tasks. Although it doesn’t give you a lively colored picture quality right out-of-the-box, you can’t complain about the picture quality. The keyboard doesn’t have a backlight. So, you have to turn your flashlight on to see the ‘F’ key on the keyboard.
There have been quite a few comments about the UP and DOWN arrow key being too small. Perhaps, the designers focused on keeping things in a grid rather than their usability when it came to these two keys. But once you get used to it, you get used to it. Otherwise, the chiclet keyboard is functional and easy to navigate.
The silver and black finishing give your laptop a clean & tidy look.
Under the Hood
HP Notebook 15 AY011NR might not be for intensive gaming. But it will perform better than expected for your needs. It is equipped with a 6th Gen Intel Core i5 microprocessor with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520, which has a memory of up to 4.04 Gigabytes. Modern gamers should be more than happy with these graphics cards and these specifications if they play at low resolutions and settings.
One of the major setbacks of this laptop was that, by the time of its circulation in the market, the Processor was already a generation old. But it is a superpower for someone who uses his computer mainly for some photo editing works, browsing, and other usual internet activities. It is super-fast and responsive.
It has a 15.6 inches Full HD SVA 1920x1080p display with 141 PPI. The display has an anti-glare screen coating. It does not offer wide viewing angles or the clarity of an In-Plane-Switching (IPS) screen, but the image quality is quite sharp, and it can be viewed well from most viewing angles. Other mid-range laptops like Lenovo’s Edge 15 and Acer’s Aspire R14 R3-471T-77HT don’t have IPS displays either.
Although the display isn’t equipped with a touch screen, it may not be that of a deal, depending on your requirements.
The laptop has an island-style full-size chiclet keyboard with a numeric keypad. It also has a touchpad that supports multi-touch gestures.
It is also equipped with two USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, an integrated webcam, 802.11b/g/n/ac Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100 Ethernet, and a SuperMulti DVD burner. It has a card reader that supports multi-format SD media card.
HP Notebook 15 AY011NR has two stereo speakers with DTS Studio Sound. This is more than enough for a fantastic movie experience.
Life can be unpredictable, but your HP laptop shouldn’t be. The HP Notebook 15 AY011NR is a great budget gaming laptop that provides casual gamers with decent hardware. And as the saying goes, “Buy your own HP laptop.”
