apple ipad – Geekstir

Apple sold 350,000 iPads on the day of release and 450,000 iPads within the first week. The iPad officially hit one million sales, Apple announced yesterday; and it only took 28 days.

If it seems like 28 days is a long time to sell just a million iPads, you may be surprised to know it took the original iPhone a whopping 74 days to sell a million units. So there you have it; the iPad is more successful than the iPhone. Well, maybe it’s a little too soon to say that. Sure, the iPad had a better first month, but to date, the iPhone has sold over 50 million units worldwide. That includes the original iPhone, the 3G, and the 3GS.

We’ll see if the iPad can keep pace in a couple months when the next iPhone hits. It’s also good to note the iPad 3G just started selling, after the first month of the Wifi only version. Not to mention the delayed international launch of both versions of the iPad.

I think we’ve finally found the best use for the iPad. Sure, the iPad can check email, browse the web, listen to music, and even play games, but when your cat can also enjoy the iPad, that $499 base price doesn’t seem so high anymore. Unless you’re evil and don’t care about giving your cat a boring, emotionless life.

I’m typing this on my iPad right now, and my cat is staring at me, waiting for his turn. I guess I have been hogging it guite a bit… …Continue reading iPad, the Most Expensive Cat Toy Ever

There’s some bad news for those living outside of the United State who are waiting to buy an iPad. It looks like you’ll be waiting even longer. Apple has delayed the international launch of the iPad until the end of May, due to such high demand and short supply in the U.S.

The iPad sold 500,000 units in it’s first week, and that’s just for the WiFi model. The 3G model isn’t even out yet. We’ll see if people held out for the 3G model when it hits stores at the end of April, or if the majority of buyers went out and picked up the WiFi iPad.  Here’s the official statement from Apple…

“Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.”

A little more than a year after iPhone OS 3.0 was released, the next evolution of the software is revealed, and coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch in the Summer, and to the iPad in the fall. The iPhone 3GS, the iPad, and the current generation iPod Touch will get all of the new features from OS 4.0, but older iPod Touches, and previous generations of the iPhone will not get everything; one of those things being Multitasking. More likely a hardware limitation on the older devices, rather than a way to make people upgrade. Multitasking is only one of the brand new features revealed today…
