I question the authenticity of some of these. I mean, come on...If your last name is Beaver, and the last name of the person you're marrying is Wetter, would nobody at the wedding object to the marriage? My personal favorite is Hardy-Harr. If you have anymore, please send the to us using the submit button at the top of the page. |

I am reaching out to see who I can talk to about becoming one of your traffic sources. We are an advertising network with over 180 million monthly uniques and deliver over 5 billion impressions. Our network is made up of publishers, publisher networks, desktop application and search engines. We can target contextually, behaviorally, and by re-targeting. We don’t have contracts and you can test our traffic for as little as $25/day. I work with other sites that share your demographics and have had success capturing sign-ups/registrations as well as delivering high volumes to help with the monetization of banner space.
I look forward to hearing back from whoever handles this and seeing if there is an opportunity for us to work together.

I knew a couple that decided to combine both of their last names into 1, and they both took the new name. Her last name was Cox, so that couldn't be shortened, but his was Whistler.
They briefly considered Coxler, and decided that wasn't funny enough. Last time we spoke, it was a tie between Coxwhistle and Whistlecox. They were actually taking polls to see which one people thought sounded funniest!

Reminds me of old joke around Northern Iowa. Two towns, Fertile and Manly. Headline reads "Manly Man Marries Fertile Woman." I can't vouch for authenticity, but who cares. Funny stuff.

Come on people, you are being way to serious. What if there weren't any coincidences like these names in life? Life without laughter is boring. We all have things in our lives that other people are going to find funny. No one is immune. And, I applaud you, Mrs. Wetter for commenting on here. And, by the way, congratulations on your marriage. And to all of the people above.

LOL, so funny! And I hope you guys were joking when you asked why these people would get married. Like someone mentioned previously, they most likely didn't use that combination, it was simply used for the paper.

I always rememember a newspaper article about a wonderful new honeymoon hotel
It was basically modelled after a hunting lodge
The woman had a kitchen with marble counters to cook on
Guy had a lazy chair , to sit drinking beer and such comforts as a billards room
Lots of fun for the new bride
Get used to it I guess

You guys realize that these people didn't really hyphenate their names right?
When people get engaged the local newspapers often run this type of thing with both of their names.
I am sure these people sent these to the paper well aware of how their name combination sound.

In every article, the man's last name is before the woman's. In the case of wang-holder, the names are switched to where the woman's is first. Whoever wrote that article couldn't resist it...

"Don't these people think before getting married?" WTF is that supposed to mean? We shouldn't get married because our names are hilarious together? We all can't have boring, harmless names like Smith or Johnson, and we have to make do with awesome names like Beaver or Wetter. And btw, we eloped, so there was no one to object to the names at our wedding and now it just makes a great story when anyone finds out my maiden name.
Susan (Beaver) Wetter

My argument against hyphenation is that it arrogates an option that wouldn't survive successive generations, and forces one's children to face a choice oneself does not face. Either one must choose between one's parents' surnames, or accept the ridiculous option of concatenating hyphenations ad infinitem.
Thus, the children of "Traylor-Hooker" might marry the children of "Wang-Holder", and by this logic find themselves bearing the name "Sissy Traylor-Hooker-Wang-Holder".
Here's the rub: when hyphenation of two simple names is on the table, one point (apparently) is avoiding the offense of excluding one of two identities. But in successive generations, in order to avoid absurdity it's precisely forcing a choice of which identity to exclude that's in play -- thus parents force a situation on their children which they have not accepted for themselves.
All this because traditional name-taking, apparently, is just so out of vogue.
Enter the idiocy. Good grief.

This kind of segment is the only good part of Leno. Other than the headlines and very few other other skits, Leno is crap. Conan FTW!!!!!!! VIVA LA CONAN!!
Jeff McGary on January 25th, 2008, 11:27 am
