what you will find is at the time simpsons came out - it was new, something different and very tongue in cheek at the time it was released at a time where despite it being early 90s, they were only just becoming risque in tv ideas. we are desensitised to everything now and we have seen it all and sadly Simpsons never kept up with the viewers. I wont fib, i do still watch it. i still chuckle it but i find it is now a name drop show - oh look U2 is on, and Elton John, and theres Tony Blair.
Futurama is different because its stuff that hasnt been covered.............yet - because its in space/future - but no doubt Matt will run it into the ground! Call him the Lucas of Cartoons!*sorry to star wars fans*
sadly, and i really hate myself for saying it - Family guy is following the trend - I am eagerly awaiting the Cleavland Show hoping for some miracle change to a enjoyable but sadly overrun show.
I believe it is the concept which causes problems - cartoons - cartoons you can get away with so much, thus giving you more opportunities to create more - and you have never ending ideas of what to do with your characters - i think they should demand a 5 season max limit on cartoons.
I found with shows which were sadly axed - i.e God the Devil and Bob, Father of the Pride, Stressed Eric - i want more - i remember them fondly and have no bad opinions of them and would love to think of more - but creators want to milk every last storyline out of it!
