This is bullshit. How can they get away with that? They probably get the old people…
Gandal
You would think anybody buying a PS3 would know how to hook it up and download the latest firmware.

Sadly enough, people will dish out the cash for something so simple. *cough* girlfriends *cough*

There's this wonderful device that comes standard with every PS3. As a matter of fact, comes standard with *any* gaming console. It's called an “instruction manual”. And really, if you can't figure out that one end goes in the system and the other goes in the wall, blow your brains out.

I think crapping out $130 would be a better solution

Nothing new…they used to charge up to $50 to install RAM in a PC.

easy. like someone said “they get the old people”, my parents bought my a computer a couple years ago (even though it was cheaper for me to have built it with even better specs) for about 900$. turns out the actual machine was only 450$ and they had spent nearly 500$ in insurance which just allows the computer to be repaired for a lower cost. ftl

they still do… and my tech teacher get like 100$ just for changing the hard drive !!!
Geek Squad
i am an “agent.” you should really see the price list for the shit we do. virus removal is $200…

I'm also an agent, and you are a god damn embarrassment. I have sold one of these in the last six months. Guess what? The person asked US to do it, and agreed to the cost. And our scope of work is pretty extensive. Besides, you pay a $100 premium for the first service performed in-home, so if you were getting a PC setup at the same time it would only cost $49.99 for us to unbox and hook up your system, teach you how to change inputs, setting up basic settings and creating you an xbox live account, setting up parental controls, and educating you in the usage of your new gaming system.
Uhh..
You're a god damn embarrassment that you voluntarily rip people off like that. The included manual will teach you how to “hook up your system, teach you how to change inputs, setting up basic settings and creating you an xbox live account, setting up parental controls, and educating you in the usage of your new gaming system.”

Anybody buying a PS3 should already know how to open the box, take it out, and plug it in. Defending the fraud of the Geek Squad at Best Buy is ridiculous. Didn't they even do a Dateline NBC thing on Geek Squad. They purposely infected their computer with a specific virus, spent hundreds of dollars for the GS to fix it, and got it back with the virus still there. They also had a tracking thing showing that the GS looked at all their personal files and even copied some of them like pictures, videos, and music.

So wait, the red plug goes into the red socket…..I agree, they must prey on the clueless.
I needed to get the LED inverter repaired for my Toshiba laptop – total was $100 inclusive of part/install from a local tech. I shopped around before I completed the fix…asked BB about their price. They told me it would be cheaper to buy a new system as the cost would run about $675,,,…and of course when I asked how they planned on repairing the thing, they told me they shipped it back to a Toshiba or they find a local shop to do the repair..the extra $$ was considered a concierge fee.
fucking crooks.

Nah, I would never buy a guy the extra…if he's into games enough that I would even consider buying the system, I would assume that he could figure it out.
