Geekstir is all about giving you the latest news, trailers, pictures, and videos about the things you care about. We don’t discriminate here at Geekstir. If you’re into movies, tv shows, gaming, sci-fi, tech, politics, arts and crafts, cyberculture, or anything else you’re passionate enough about to call yourself a geek, then this is the place for you. Seriously, we don’t discriminate. If you’re a homosexual, atheist republican, who is also a PS3 fanboy, don’t be embarrassed to admit so; we welcome you.
So, here is a little history on Geekstir:
The site was started in August of 2007. It started off as just a little site that I posted random videos and pictures on for fun. After a couple months, and during the final months of 2007, the site starting getting a little popular, with a few pages going viral on sites like Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon. After that, I was motivated to stick with the site, and update it more frequently, and the site and reader base grew as 2008 started and progressed.
When the site was first launched, it was using a simple blogging software, with minimal features, so I decided it was time for an upgrade. In October of 2008, Geekstir was relaunched using Wordpress. All previous posts, comments, and pages were gone. It was a sacrifice, but Geekstir and it’s readers deserved a better commenting system, a cleaner site, and an overall faster, and easier to navigate site.
Throughout the first year or so of Geekstir, I was still learning a lot of design and coding. When the site first started, I thought I had a good design, but looking back at it now, I’m a little embarrassed. Take a look at some of Geekstir’s designs in the past:

In conclusion, Geekstir was started in August of 2007, and is still going strong today. The site is ran by myself, Mathue Shell, as well as a few bloggers who help out from time to time. Learn about the bloggers of Geekstir below.

Mathue Shell
I’m the founder, owner, and Head Geek of Geekstir.com. I’m 20 years old, and have been building websites since I was 13. I taught myself everything I know today about coding in HTML, CSS, PHP, and everything I know about graphics design.
When I was 13, I started messing around with drag and drog website builders like Geocities. That was my first step into the world of websites. After a couple months of doing that, I began reading tutorials and writing my own HTML, then moved onto an actual web host that wasn’t a drag and drop job. Over the years, I’ve just learned new things about design as I go along. The design here on Geekstir, as well as the logo and mascot, was created and coded by me. If you’ve been visiting Geekstir for a while, you’ll notice changes to the design often. That’s because I’m a little obsessive and want to make sure everything looks the best I can possibly make it look.
Other than the internet, I have a lot of other hobbies and passions. I’m a huge video game and movie collector. I have somewhere around 200 DVDs in my movie collection, and probably about the same amount of old school VHS tapes. I’m an Xbox 360 owner, and a Wii owner…sorry PS3 fans. I own about 15 or 16 different video game consoles, including lots of the classics like the NES, SNES, Atari 2600, Genesis, Sega Master System, and of course…a Dreamcast; just to name a few. I have about 75 NES cartridges, about the same amount of Sega Genesis cartridges, and probably around 300 games total for all the different systems. Oh, I own a Power Glove too. It’s so bad.
If I can think of anything else to say about myself, I’ll add onto this in the future. You can email me at email@geekstir.com, I always read every email.
